Marcos’s artistic path has been one of dedicated, meticulous preparation, a philosophy rooted in the belief that a truly sustainable and expressive voice is built through patient, long-term development. This foundational training includes a Bachelor's Degree from New Mexico State University, which laid the groundwork for his advanced studies in New York City. He holds both a Master of Music and a Professional Studies Certificate in Vocal Performance from the prestigious Manhattan School of Music. The core of his vocal technique and artistry was cultivated under the mentorship of the esteemed Eduardo Valdes, a celebrated artist of the Metropolitan Opera.
His conservatory training was augmented by pivotal summer programs that connected him with legendary figures of the opera world. He was selected for the prestigious Bel Canto Institute, founded by Metropolitan Opera assistant conductor and prompter Jane Bakken Klaviter, where he immersed himself in the style and traditions of 19th and 20th-century Italian opera. He further honed his performance skills through the Martina Arroyo Foundation, participating in both the renowned Prelude to Performance program and the foundation's intensive Role Preparation Class. He continues to prioritize his professional development, including coaching in his home state of New Mexico with esteemed pianist and conductor Joe Illick, Music Director Emeritus of the Fort Worth Opera.
The secondary roles of Prunier and Lisette were in the sure comical hands of Katie Dixon and Marcos Vigil. Vigil deadpanned the self-important poet, which made his occasional losses of control (such as a sexy bite aimed at Dixon’s neck) amusing and unexpected.

He has portrayed the lovelorn Nemorino in Donizetti's L'Elisir D'Amore with Mid-Ohio Opera and the dashing Count Almaviva in Rossini's Il Barbiere di Siviglia with the Opera Company of Brooklyn. He further showcased his flair for Rossinian comedy as the character Don Eusebio in L'Occasione Fa Il Ladro with the Little Opera Theater of New York. He also explored the Puccini repertoire as Prunier in La Rondine as a participant in the Martina Arroyo Foundation's Prelude to Performance.
Equally at home in the complexities of 20th-century music, he has delved into powerful character roles such as King Nebuchadnezzar in Britten’s The Burning Fiery Furnace with Opera Brittenica and the soldier (Ein Soldat) in Viktor Ullmann's pivotal work, Der Kaiser von Atlantis, for The People's Theater of Denver.
His recent professional engagements include performing as a member of the acclaimed Santa Fe Opera chorus for their 2023 production of Wagner's The Flying Dutchman. In the summer of 2024, he was part of the world premiere chorus for Joe Illick's new opera, Zozobra: The Revenge, at Santa Fe's Lensic Theater, further demonstrating his commitment to both the grand tradition and the creation of new works.
An accomplished artist on the concert stage, Marcos is a sought-after soloist for major oratorio and symphonic repertoire. He joined the New Mexico Philharmonic as the tenor soloist for Beethoven’s monumental Symphony No. 9. His extensive oratorio experience includes Handel’s Messiah with both the Metro Chamber Orchestra and Polyphony: Voices of New Mexico, and Bach's Christmas Oratorio with Polyphony. Other significant concert engagements include the notoriously demanding tenor solos in Orff’s Carmina Burana and Mozart's Requiem.
